News & EventsNews ReleaseBack to News & EventsSOUTH FLORIDA RENOVATIONSNORTH PALM BEACH, FL (June 2001) — After completing a very successful clubhouse renovation at Frenchman's Creek, Weitz Golf was awarded the renovation work of the south golf course of Frenchman's Creek. This work is being performed under the direction of Golf Course Designer, Bob Cupp. Mr. Cupp worked with Gardner Dickson during the 1970's on the original designs for both golf courses in Frenchman's Creek. The club decided to renovate the course based on the age of the course, it's conditions and the desire to have a golf course that is constructed and maintained to today's higher standards. After clearing approximately 35 acres of exotic trees and other undesirable vegetation, the entire course is being reshaped and a complete new drainage system is being installed. In addition, the work will include the construction of new greens complexes, bunkers, tee's and a completely new irrigation system including pump station. New landscaping consisting of over 1500 new trees will also be installed. The scope of work also includes updated bridges and bulkheads. The fairways, roughs and tees will be grassed with TifSport. The greens will be grassed with TifEagle. The work began April 2,2001 with the construction work to be completed by August 17, 2001. Having completed another Cupp designed golf course during the past eighteen months, the Weitz Golf staff was very familiar with the requirements of the golf course designer. During this same time and for many of the same reasons Mayacoo Lakes Golf Club also selected to renovate and update their existing golf course. The club selected Golf Course Designer Mr. Kipp Schulties for plan production, architectural direction, and contract administration. Since Jack Nicklaus was involved in the original design, Nicklaus Design is working with Kipp Schulties to insure that the original design is preserved during the renovation process. The entire course is being reshaped and new drainage is being installed. The work also includes rebuilding all the greens, tee's, bunkers, and a complete new irrigation system including pumps. The fairways, roughs, and tees will be grassed with Tifway 419. The greens will be grassed with Tifdwarf. Construction started April 2,2001 and will be completed by July 31,2001. Mayacoo Lakes is rated the 3rd most difficult golf course in the State of Florida. Owner and Designers on both projects are all very pleased with Weitz Golf's staff, as well as, the quality and speed of construction. For More Information, contact: Matt
